I'm guessing I first heard them on KEXP, when I lived close enough to be able to listen to it in my car. I can remember that fateful summer day in 2004 - seeing them play live for the first time at the 3B Tavern in Bellingham, Washington... with my bestie... Awww, those were the days.

When I came upon Leah's table at the San Francisco Renegade Holiday Show I immediately fell in love with everything I saw. Love-love-love, this was my favorite of all. I would have no problem covering a good portion of my new apartment in her textiles and art. She gets extra points for being so nice to chat with me and answer all my questions.
We may already be 2 days into the new year but I just had to get in this one last post into the holidays category. (Ya know - so you can be *extra* prepared for next year!)
While visiting one of my favorite friends in Oakland we promptly headed to the 2010 Holiday Renegade Show. You can bet your buns there will be a Shortstack booth here in the very near future. Here are a select few of my favorites that sparkled in a sea of vendors:
Alana Douvrous Jewelry - inspired by Greek and Egyptian designs, her pieces are truly unique. Edgy, delicate and super imaginative - she's now one of my favorites.
Love, Daniella - you have to see her linens in person, they are gorgeous and stopped me dead in my tracks. They're the happiest of tea towels I've seen and I just want them hanging around my home. Daniella makes each piece by hand and she was one of the nicest vendors we chatted with.
Chewing the Cud - I've long been ogling over their tea towels and super cute designs. It was a highlight to my day when I was able to see them in person and take home the yellow Give Luck fabric wrap that I've always wanted.
Sara Paloma - one day I will have my very own family of Sara Paloma bottles. By my book these are as essential and chic as it gets. The stoneware wings and hearts were precious little treasures.
Phew! What a rush! Unique LA was fabulous and it was great to be there. The booth was a total success - my precious friend Kate did a stunning job and my printer Madeleine is my hero. I know a lot of people around town are still uploading their photos - so keep an eye out, it's exciting to see new pics.

To each and every one of my dear friends - whether you lent an ear, a hand, a Ford Bronco, a raid through your storage unit, a run to Home Depot in horrible traffic, a hand cart, a few drops of midnight oil, a power cutter, a midday grilled cheese sandwich, a few words of encouragement, a brief stint as a stand-in while I rushed to the loo, a camera, a facebook post, a smile, a hug, a giggle, a final cheers or just a text... all of this made for a couple of incredibly special days for Shortstack - I offer you all a heartfelt thank you :)
I'm a little bit in love with the Little Winter Handmade Market. I'll follow up that compliment with another by saying: Portland is so fantastic. I just want to stand in front of that cute window display and get lost in those little houses.
In a time when everything you find is made in China - it's little gems like this that remind us about the treasures of handmade goods.
